Adriatic Conservancy: Education and Citizen Science for Coastal Habitat Conservation

The Adriatic Conservancy project aims to promote awareness of the Adriatic coastal environment and actively engage citizens in Citizen Science initiatives, contributing to the collection of essential data for its conservation.

The Adriatic coasts host an extraordinary variety of habitats characterized by high biodiversity. However, these ecosystems are increasingly threatened by predominantly human-induced impacts, making joint action for their protection more urgent than ever.

The project is structured in several phases:
🔹 Dissemination and awareness-raising – Through educational activities, participants gain knowledge of the various habitats and the species that inhabit them, with particular attention to the species protected under the ASPEH (Adriatic SPEcies and Habitats of coastal areas) project, highlighting their importance and promoting their conservation.
🔹 Student involvement – High school students actively participate in environmental monitoring programs, contributing to the collection of valuable data for scientific research.
🔹 Discussion and sharing – The initiative culminates in a conference where students present the data they have collected, engage in discussions with researchers, and explore key topics emerging from the project.

This initiative provides students with a tangible opportunity to engage with the world of scientific research, experiencing all phases of the process—from field observation and data collection to analysis and presentation in an academic setting.

With Adriatic Conservancy, science becomes accessible, inclusive, and participatory, contributing to the preservation of the Adriatic’s precious natural heritage.

Our Goal

To raise awareness among students in schools in the Marche region about the importance of safeguarding the Adriatic Sea, combining theoretical learning with practical experiences of environmental conservation.
